SAPA Fehervar need last win as Banham exits
SAPA Fehervar AV19 host HDD TILIA Olimpija Ljubljana on Friday. By beating the Slovenian team, the Hungarians will guarantee their spot in the play-offs. Niklas Andersson will play his first match for the Devils while Frank Banham won’t be featuring for the Dragons. Plus: EC Red Bull Salzburg versus EC-KAC and EV Vienna Capitals versus Moser Medical Graz 99ers.
SAPA Fehervar AV19 have sent two seasons learning the ropes, and the hardships of Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. Now the Hungarian champions are on course to qualify for the play-offs. Only one win against HDD TILIA Olimpija Ljubljana stands in their way of making it this time. Lajos Enekes analyzed the Situation prior to hearing about Frank Banhams exit in Ljubljana: If we manage to win on Friday night, then Olimpija will not be able to reach us in the standings and we will secure ourselves a spot in the play-offs. Frank Banham is still our opponent’s most dangerous players but we mustn’t think that we will face a single-man opponent. Shift by shift we will have to give our best, both in defense and in offense.” thus emphasizing Banhams importance, but also pointing put that a single player won’t win a game for a team. Newly acquired Defenceman Niklas Andresson will fill in for the injured Rastislav Ondrejcik, whose season is over. Enekes said: “Andersson is a well-built, agile young player whose hockey technique skills place him on the level of our best players. He has played the entire season so we believe that he will show good form and will be able to help our team.” He’s expected to be paired with compatriot David Bornhammar.
HDD TILIA Olimpija Ljubljana had to concede that another player parted company with the club. Goalgetter, Leader and inspirational Character Frank Banham (62 points, 30 Goals) will leave Ljubljana on Saturday, apparently heading for Switzerland: Ivo Jan has left for Italy, too, while Matt Higgins and Jure Kralj are out injured.
